Puerto Rican Bassist Alex "Apolo" Ayala embodies the spirit of the multilingual musician. His vast knowledge of both Latin music and Jazz languages makes him one of the few bilingual bassists in the music scene. A native from San Juan,Puerto Rico,he blends his afro-caribbean roots with the jazz language,which enables him to pace himself through swing,bebop,blues,bomba,plena,rumba, and explorations through other Latin-American expressions (Samba/Bossa,Tango,Afro-Peruvian,Afro-Colombian,Afro-Venezuelan). His body of work includes performances,tours,recordings,and Grammy-Nominations with a vast majority of Latin music giants and world-renowned jazz musicians.Gilberto Santarosa,Roberto Rohena,Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz,Tito Nieves,Tito Rojas,Puerto Rican Power,Luis “Perico” Ortiz,Giovanni Hidalgo,Antonio Hart,David Sanchez,Edsel Gomez,Paoli Mejias,Ralph Irrizary,Jerry Gonzalez,William Cepeda,Mitch Frohman,Los Pleneros de la 21,among many others,are on his resume. Based in New York City since 2013, he started in music at age 11. He studied and graduated with honors from"Escuela Libre de musica de Hato Rey",and later on "Jazz and Caribbean Music" department of the renowned "Conservatorio de Musica de Puerto Rico", where he studied with legendary bassist Eddie Gomez,and worldwide renowned Saxophonist David Sanchez,among others. He has perform in both national and international venues,such as Madison Square Garden (NY),Greek Theater(L.A.),House of Blues (Orlando),Staples Center (L.A.), Coliseo de Puerto Rico ,Luis.A. Ferre Center for the perfoming arts,Pablo Casals Symphony Hall,Dia Nacional de la Salsa,La Feria de Cali(Colombia),Latinoamericando Festival (Milan) as well as several tours to the United States,Canada,Central&South America, and Europe.
